Description
In this hands-on workshop, Michael Kehs will show an early version of the Carter Perfect Sphere Jig to create a sphere. Due to time constraints, participants must either bring a 2.5” to 3.5” diameter sphere or purchase one that we will have available for sale. The focus of this workshop is on embellishing (not turning). We will create separate panels on the sphere and use different textures in each panel. Michael will show his burn texturing technique to give some panels a unique surface. Burn-texturing is basically mini branding irons, not your typical burning tip. These branding irons, (made of Ni-chrome wire) are sometimes used to create specific patterns but more often used to create a random (chaotic) texture. Some textures will be burned in with friction using cup burs (to create a bumpy surface; think lizard skin). The sphere is a natural shape which is perfect for this technique. If time permits, we will add colour with a dry brush technique.
Participants in the hands-on texturing workshop are recommended but not required to bring the following items:
- Pyrography machine (ideally with higher wattage).
- Pyrography pen with the ability to accept self-made tips.
- Micromotor with high torque handpiece that will accept 1/8” shank tools.
