Water-based Dye Stains

Water-based Dye Stains penetrate deep into the wood to beautifully magnify the grain. This low VOC stain will provide your project with more depth and color vibrancy than any other wood stain. Dye Stain is a PFAS-free stain, and as General Finishes strives for a cleaner and healthier environment, all future product development will be free of “Forever Chemicals." This product is excellent for highly figured woods like mahogany, walnut or maple. Dye stains can also be used as a toner when mixed with Water-based topcoats.

Dye Stain Reducer

Dye Stain Reducer is the clear base we use when manufacturing General Finishes Dye Stain and can be used to make custom Dye Stain colors by mixing with GF water base stains. It can also be used to layer color under other water or oil base stains. Stain Reducer is a PFAS-free coating, and as General Finishes strives for a cleaner and healthier environment, all future product development will be free of “Forever Chemicals." 

Please note that during the colder months, water based finishes, unlike oil based finishes, are subject to freezing during shipping and may not be usable afterwards.

While being able to handle a “slush” like freeze, they cannot recover from total solidification.
