Description

Hand-chasing threads in wood may be considered a nearly forgotten art by today’s woodturners.

Almost any good piece of wood can be threaded and turned into an elegant box that can hold anything from valuable items to candy or just be used as an ornament.

In this workshop, we will choose the wood, discuss design choices and how that affects the elements of the turning.

We’ll discuss and learn how to:

-get the pieces  ready for the lathe

-use parting tools and separate the lid and body of the box

-hollow the lid and thread it

-make the body to fit the lid and hollow and thread it

-shape, decorate and finish the box

This is not a project for a beginner wood turner, you should have taken at least the fundamentals of woodturning course and be comfortable with the basic tools such as the bowl gouge and scrapers.

This is a fun little project that can be accomplished in just a few hours and leaves you with a great piece that can be gifted or enjoyed by yourself.

Instructor: Mike Swendsen

This is a 1-day workshop: Saturday 9 AM-1 PM.

The cost of the course includes all materials.

Please call the store at 403-255-6044 for further inquiries
