Crown, 1/2" 13mm Skew, Bottom Rolled Edge , Top Edge Square

Since their introduction, our high speed steel woodturning tools have rapidly become the favorites of many discerning woodturners worldwide.  Made from M2 high speed steel (rockwell 62/64) and fitted with ergonomically designed stained beech or rosewood handles with heavy duty brass ferrules, these tools are beautifully effective, giving up to six times the edge life of carbon tools.

Crown- Rolled Edge Skew (1/2”)

As a longtime woodturner, you can’t go wrong with Crown lathe tools.
The “rolled” bottom edge is the ideal geometry for smooth performance along the tool test, when using a slew to complete normal spindle work (& really helps if you happen to be just learning skew cuts to roll beads, etc.).
The attached photo shows a short, test spindle completed with the 1/2” Skew- no sanding required, as finish is at least equivalent to1000x, right off the chisel.
Note- chisel was reground to a 40 degree included angle on an 8” wheel, then a quick hone to 1200x on diamond stones, followed by stropping on leather (green chromium compound)- this is my normal sharpening protocol for lathe skews.
A 40 degree included angle is a good all round choice for most common hardwoods- if you’re into turning harder exotics, I’d recommend getting a second chisel and grinding to a 50 degree included angle.
Black Forest “”jumped” on my order, with prompt delivery.
Happy turning!
