Stabilized Mottled Maple Burl pen blanks. Approximate dimensions 3/4" square by 5" long.
The wild grain of maple burl has eyes and swirls of varying size and hue. Stabilization refers to impregnating soft wood with resin, creating a blank that is no longer weak. Burl is a rare, abnormal growth on a tree that has beautiful swirling figure and eyes and is often used in high end furniture.
The blank in the picture has been sanded to show the figuring. Your blanks will be selected at random and may differ slightly from the illustration.. The blank in the photograph is representative only. Some colour variability is to be expected - this is because different blanks have different densities that will affect how the wood absorbs resin. We do not offer refunds for colour variability within the blank or other slight internal imperfections.
Easy to drill and turn - we recommend finishing with thin CA glue, abranet, micro mesh and a plastic polish for a smooth, high gloss shine.
